Author Bio:
Jianjun Fang received his bachelor degree in mechanical engineering from Central China Agricultural University in 1993 and Ph. D. in mechanical engineering from China Agricultural University. From 1998 to 2010, he has been an assistant professor, an associate professor, and then a full professor with the Department of Mechanical Engineering at North China University of China, Beijing. Since 2010, he has been a full professor and Dean of Automation College at Beijing Union University, Beijing, China. His research interests include the development of agricultural harvesting robots and home service robots, machine vision and control of robots.(e-mail:jianjun@buu.edu.cn)

Yinong Zhang graduated from Inner Mongolia University of Technology, China, in 1990. She received the M. Sc. degree from Tsinghua University in 2004. She is currently a professor at Beijing Union University. Her research interests include complex industrial system modeling, and system control.(e-mail:zdhtyinong@buu.edu.cn)

He has been an operator with Liaohe Oil Field Petrochemical Refinery from 1999-2002, an engineer with Beijing Anwenyou Science and Technology Company, Ltd. from 2003-2005, and an instrument senior engineer with China Tianchen Engineering Corporation (TCC) from 2008-2012. He is currently an associate professor with the College of Automation, Beijing Union University. Abstract

Abstract

Hydrogen-air proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cell is a promising clean energy. However, the stack output tracking control is still a challenging problem due to the soft characteristic of the stack. Both over-and less-control will cause the stack flooding or oxygen lacking which dramatically decreases the life of stacks. Traditional control methods rely on the accurate model of the fuel cell system, which is a high-order nonlinear system, and involve a complex controller design process. This paper combines the data-based fuzzy cluster modeling technology with the sliding mode control and the integral actions. The sliding mode controller tracks the dynamic changes of the fuel cell system and the integral controller eliminates the steady-state errors. Simulation results demonstrate good performance of the proposed control method.
